Welcome to The Wyrd Community!

We’re excited to have you join our private chat space, which is hosted on a secure, federated platform called Matrix. To get started, you’ll need to create an account on our homeserver, thewyrd.net, using the Element app.

Your One-Time Registration Token

Registration to join the homeserver requires a special, one-time-use Registration Token. This would have been e-mailed to you when you Subscribed previously, or ordered a Tarot Reading. Otherwise to get a token now, Subscribe below and one will be e-mailed to you.

Step-by-Step Registration Guide

Please follow these steps exactly to create your account and connect to our homeserver:

Part 1: Download & Open Element

  1. Download the Element App: Element is the most popular client for Matrix. Choose your platform:
    • Desktop: To open in a browser, or install desktop apps (Windows/WindowsARM64/Mac/Linux)

      Please note that the Tarot Table cannot be used on mobile devices, if you plan to participate in Tarot Readings choose a desktop option.
    • Mobile (iOS): Element X on the Apple App Store
    • Mobile (Android): Element X on the Google Play Store, or F-Droid Open the App: Launch the Element app once it’s installed.
  2. Click “Create Account”: On the welcome screen, select the “Create Account” option.

Part 2: Connect to Our Homeserver

  1. Change the Homeserver: By default, Element may suggest matrix.org. You need to change this to our custom homeserver.
    • Look for the text that says “Host your account on…” or “Homeserver” and click “Edit” or “Change”.
    • In the custom homeserver field, enter our homeserver address: thewyrd.net
    • Click “Continue” or “Next”.

Part 3: Register Your Account

  1. Choose Your Details: Enter the following information to set up your account:
    • Username: Choose a unique username. Your full Matrix ID will be @yourusername:thewyrd.net. (You can’t change this later!)
    • Password: Choose a strong, secure password.
    • Email: Enter your email to allow for password recovery.
  2. The Registration Token: After filling in your details, the app will prompt you for a token.
    • Paste your unique token from your email.
    • Click “Register” or “Submit”.

Part 4: Final Steps & Security

  1. Set up Secure Backup: Element will immediately prompt you to set up Secure Backup (often called “Security Key” or “Passphrase”). This is crucial! It allows you to recover your encrypted messages if you log in on a new device.
    • Choose a secure passphrase or save the generated security key. Do not skip this step!
  2. Verify Your Device: Once logged in, you may be prompted to verify your current device when you start a new communication in an encrypted channel. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process (e.g., comparing emojis) so you can have verified encrypted exchanges with others.

Once you are registered, you should be automatically joined to our main community room. Look for the room named #general:thewyrd.net. If you can’t see any rooms try clicking this invite link : https://matrix.to/#/#general:thewyrd.net and click to join the room.
